Happy New Year! I hope your year is off to a wonderful start.
Beginning this month, and throughout 2015, I’ll be doing a segment called READER LIMELIGHT, where I will be shining the spotlight on you—the reader.
Today, we kick-off the first installment with Kateena H.:
JA: What is your preferred genre?
KH: African American Romance
JA: What makes you fall in love with the Hero?
KH: I like an alpha male who is strong and assertive and one who treats the heroine like a prized possession.
JA: Who are some of your favorite authors?
KH: Joy Avery, Love Belvin, Nia Forrester, Iris Bolling, Christopher Bynum, S.K. Hardy, Christina C Jones, Tina Martin, Maureen Smith, Ana E Ross
JA: Why do you read romance?
KH: With so much discontent, crime, social and political issues going on in the world, I like to read about love lost and found to escape from reality for a bit. Reading romance relaxes me.
JA: What would make you toss a book across the room and never pick it up again?
KH: Excessive spelling and grammatical errors.
JA: Would you read a book where the Hero wasn’t Tall, Dark, and Handsome, just slightly above average?
KH: Yes
JA: Do you prefer series or standalone books? Why?
KH: I prefer standalone books because I feel a complete story can be told in just one book. I would rather an author focus on introducing new characters in a new story rather than dragging a story out among several books.
JA: Do you prefer reading about Heroes who are rich, just your average Joe, or both?
KH: I prefer reading about Heroes who are wealthy. They don’t have to be billionaires, but having money often makes the Hero appear more powerful and above reach. That being said, I have read many excellent books where the Hero was not rich and struggling financially but appealed to me in many other ways.
JA: What type of reader do you consider yourself? Avid or when the mood strikes?
KH: I’m an avid reader. I read at least 2-3 books per week, when time permits.
JA: If you’ve read a Joy Avery book, is there a scene you particularly enjoyed?
KH: I loved the scene in Smoke in the Citi when Passion & Angel broke into Dasher’s house to retrieve the letter Passion’s housekeeper had mailed to him by mistake. I found it hilarious and I love romance novels with a little humor added in.
