First, what type of vehicle are we cruising in today?
We’re cruising in a…..Red Bentley Coupe.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was born in Washington, D.C. At the tender age of thirteen I moved to Raleigh, NC where I live with my only son, Emanuel. I have been a book lover from a very young age. I write nonstop in my free time. ‘Love Heist’ is my first novel written in 2010. My second novel ‘Married to A Balla’ was released in 2011. And the sequel ‘Life…After A Balla’ was released in 2012.
What genre(s) do you write in? And how/why did you choose it?
I write Urban Fiction, I started writing Urban Fiction after reading “The Coldest Winter Ever” by Sister Souljah. I was so amazed by that book. However, I’m thinking about expanding my brand into Urban Romance.
Do you ever experience writer’s block? If so, what do you do to overcome it?
Yes, I experience writers block a lot. To overcome it, I take a trip. Peace and quiet and getting away from my normal routine always seems to bring back my creative juices.
When writing, do you work with an outline, or just write?
I prefer to just write, but I do use an outline to keep me on track.
What do you do when you are not writing?
When I’m not writing, you can find me curled up on my couch watching a good movie.
What’s up next for you? Do you have a new book coming out soon?
I’m working on a book of short stories called “Burned: Chronicles of Woman.” Its several stories about different experiences us woman go through. Touching on topics like good and bad relationships, friendships, sibling rivalry and family drama and turmoil. I plan to make “Chronicles of a Woman” a series.
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
My advice is, never give up on your dream. A lot of publishing companies may turn you down. But keep submitting your work to other agencies or publish it on your own.
Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
I just want to say thank you for all the support. I’ll see you really soon!

***FUN ZONE***
How would you pitch a reality show about yourself? To what network?
I would pitch a storyline about basketball moms. The journey we took traveling all over to tournaments preparing out boys for High school, College and then pro ball. Those were some hilarious and trying times.
If a close friend told you that they had been abducted by aliens last night, what would be your reaction?
Yeah right. Why did they bring you back? lol
You see on the news that there is an airborne virus that is turning people into zombies. What’s the very first thing you do?
Stay home, seal up all the windows and doors.

Thank you for chatting with me, Jackie D. I look forward to having you back.

Spread The Love

BIO

By day, Joy Avery works as a customer service assistant. By night, the North Carolina native travels to imaginary worlds—creating characters whose romantic journeys invariably end happily ever after.

Since she was a young girl growing up in Garner, Joy knew she wanted to write. Stumbling onto romance novels, she discovered her passion for love stories; instantly, she knew these were the type stories she wanted to pen.

Real characters. Real journeys. Real good love is what you’ll find in a Joy Avery romance.

Joy is married with one child. When not writing, she enjoys reading, cake decorating, pretending to expertly play the piano, driving her husband insane, and playing with her fur baby.

Joy is a member of Romance Writers of America and Heart of Carolina Romance Writers.
